Unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) lesions of the medial forebrain bundle in rats impaired working memory and long-term habituation, decreased dopamine (DA) levels in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), dHPC and ventral hippocampus (vHPC), and decreased the mean density of 5-HT1A receptors and co-localization of 5-HT1A receptor and excitatory amino acid carrier 1-immunoreactive (EAAC1-ir) neurons in the dHPC compared to sham-operated rats.
Together our data suggest that E(2) regulates the reactivity of the HPA axis to a repeated stressor through modulation of the habituation response and further serves to maintain normal steady state mRNA levels of CRH and AVP in the PVN in response to a repeated alcohol stressor.
To investigate the role of WAC in ID, we studied the importance of the Drosophila WAC orthologue (CG8949) in habituation, a non-associative learning paradigm.
To investigate the involvement of central endogenous OXT or AVP in CHS-induced habituation and CHeS-induced maladaptation, chronic central administration of selective OXT receptor antagonist L-371257 and selective AVP V1b receptor antagonist SSR-149415 was performed daily.
To clarify NPY's role in schizophrenia, we investigated a genetic animal model for Y(1) deficiency in regard to (i) acoustic startle response (ASR), (ii) habituation to ASR and (iii) sensorimotor gating [i.e. prepulse inhibition (PPI)] using two different PPI protocols.
Those with low NR3C1 methylation but high HSD11B2 methylation had lower excitability scores; those with high NR3C1 methylation but low HSD11B2 methylation had more asymmetrical reflexes; those with high DNA methylation across the entire pathway had higher habituation scores.

This shift in therapeutic approach is underlined by the realization of the importance of depressed HIF-1 α-mediated gene programming in non-healing ischemic tissues, which could explain their apparent habituation to chronic hypoxic stress and the limited capacity to generate adaptive angiogenesis.
This proposal links an established risk gene with a psychological process central to psychosis and is supported by findings of comparable deficits in short-term habituation in mice lacking the NMDAR receptor subunit Grin2a (which also shows association to schizophrenia).
These results extend our understanding of the role of orexin neurons in regulating habituation and demonstrate changes in putative orexin cell morphology and spines that may underlie sex differences in habituation.
The SOR group differed from the non-SOR group in (1) a steeper escalation in NPS ratings to temperature increase (P = 0.003), indicating hyperalgesia; (2) increased sensitization (P < 0.001); (3) habituation responses (P < 0.001); (4) enhanced pain ratings during the after-sensation (P = 0.006); and (5) no group difference was found in CPM.
The responses of DBI wild-type and knockout male and female mice to ovariectomized female wild-type mice (a neutral social stimulus) were evaluated in a habituation/dishabituation task.
The ZNRD1-AS up-regulation was directly correlated with the N1 amplitude, while the RP11-819C21.1 increase after pain showed a correlation with the reduced N2/P2 amplitude and laser-pain habituation.
Taken together, these results support a role for GluA1-containing AMPA receptors in short-term habituation, and in modulating the intensity or perceived salience of stimuli.
Synthetic and Receptor Signaling Explorations of the Mitragyna Alkaloids: Mitragynine as an Atypical Molecular Framework for Opioid Receptor Modulators.
Specific RNA substrates have been identified for the functions of ATXN2 in aspects of neural physiology, such as circadian rhythms and olfactory habituation.
Results revealed a significant day by time interaction for cortisol (F=5.06; p=0.013) and IL-6 (F=4.42; p=0.041), indicating habituation of HPA axis and sensitization of inflammatory stress responses.
Results identify hindbrain lactate deficiency as a stimulus for glucagon secretion, and imply that habituation of this critical counter-regulatory hormone to recurring hypoglycemia may involve one or more hypothalamic neurotransmitters characterized here by acclimation to this critical sensory stimulus.
Our results showed that acute and repeated binge-pattern alcohol treatment increased plasma ACTH and CORT levels in both E(2)- and Ch-treated groups, however habituation to repeated binge-pattern alcohol exposure was evident only in E(2)-treated animals.
